Aegyptiaca of Achaemenid Persia: re-examination of the documentation from Iran

This paper presents the most important results of a recent publication on the Egyptian and Egyptian-style objects found in Achaemenid sites of Iran (in Persika 20, 2020), providing a new light on our knowledge of the Egyptian presence in Achaemenid Persia. The archaeological evidence studied belongs mainly to the royal context and demonstrates the appropriation of certain Pharaonic traditions in the conception of Persian palatial culture. The documentation discussed confirm the participation of various Egyptian specialists in the court life of the Persian kings but also in the architectural development of their residences.
